You can make a meaningful difference in the lives of your neighbours!
Wishing Tree is a new Christmas with Dignity initiative that aims to raise awareness and help meet some of the smaller, tangible needs of our community.
Each Wednesday, a wish will be profiled on the City of Chestermere Facebook page. If you feel like you can help fulfil a wish, just contact the City (see below) and we’ll reserve the wish for you. Once we receive the donated item, staff in our Community Resource Centre will connect with the wish recipient to deliver the item. A Christmas Tree with wishes will also be displayed at City Hall.

|Wish #8 – Wish #13: Sometimes getting from point A to point B is a challenge. Whether it is due to accessibility or the cost of fuel, current support agencies do not cover necessary expenses for transportation. This is one of the reasons why Christmas with Dignity started the Wishing Tree initiative; to help those in need cover some regular expenses that other support agencies can’t cover. Several clients that are in need of support to make medical appointments and are asking potential donors to help fulfil the wishes for a few people.||Fuel Cards, Handi Bus or Taxi Vouchers
How do I become a wish recipient?
Our wishes come from existing pre-screened families that have met the criteria with the Community Resource Centre. To see if you qualify you can fill out this online form and someone from the Community Resource Centre will contact you.
How do I become a donor?
- Fill out the online form with your details or
- Visit City Hall (105 Marina Road) from 8:30-4:30 or
- Call the Community Resource Centre at (403) 207-7079.
City staff will be in contact after one of the above methods have been completed. Please wait for a response prior to purchasing any items.
Is this initiative completely anonymous?
Yes, both the donor and the recipient will remain anonymous, unless otherwise requested.
Can I get a tax receipt for my donation?
Yes, tax receipts will only be issued for donations of $20 or more, provided that there is a proof of purchase (i.e. store receipt) of the item. Should the item not have a receipt, a market value of the item will be assessed and may be used as the amount to issue the tax receipt.
How much do the wishes cost?
The wishes range from $20 to $300 in value. Examples of wishes may be a box of diapers, bus tickets, taxi vouchers or gift cards. Each wish will list a recommended item.
How long do I have to fulfil a wish?
We kindly ask that donors fulfil a wish commitment within 7 days of acknowledgement from City staff.
Note: We will be updating and adding wishes regularly. If you still wish to donate but don’t see a wish, the staff at the Community Resource Centre will still accept your generous donation and will make every effort in connecting it with an existing client. If you have any questions about this program please contact the Community Resource Centre at (403) 207-7079 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
