After the Election

Election Results:


On the evening of October 16, the Returning Officer will tally the votes cast during advance votes, special ballots and on voting day and post the unofficial results on the door of the voting station. The City will also post the unofficial results on the City of Chestermere website, Facebook page and Twitter accounts. 
 
Pursuant to Section 98 of the Local Authorities Election Act and under certain circumstances the Returning Officer may conduct a recount in the 44 hours immediately following the closing of voting stations. If a recount is conducted, the Returning Officer will notify any candidates that may be affected.

At 12 noon on October 20, the Returning Officer shall post the official results at City Hall and announce the final, official results of the election. The official results will also be shared on the City's various platforms.
 

Post Election - All Candidates


After the Election all candidates:
  • Must remove all election signage within 7 days
  • who were accepting campaign contributions must file a campaign disclosure statement on or before March 1, 2018
  • will receive back their deposit if they have been elected or obtained half the number of votes cast for the candidate elected to the office with the least number of votes.

Post Election - Elected Candidates
 

If you have been elected, you will receive an invitation from the Chief Administrative Officer for a meet and greet at City Hall following the election. At that time you will receive an orientation package and meet senior staff at the City.

Oaths of Office: Elected officials will take their Oath of Office on Monday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. Following their swearing in, the new Council will conduct an Organizational Meeting to set the dates and times of Council meetings and appoint Councillors to committees. The public, including the family and friends of candidates, is welcome at these events. An official photo will be taken on that evening as well.

Legal Orientation: A legal orientation for Council has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Roles & Responsibilities Orientation: Training on the roles of elected officials has been scheduled for Wedesday, October 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Governance Orientation: Training on the role of Council has been scheduled for Monday, October 30 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Administrative Orientations: Orientations to the work of the City as an organization (including various departments, structures, budgeting, Council meetings, etc.) will be offered to Council and scheduled at Council's direction.

Note: While orientations are not mandatory, it is highly recommended that elected officials attend in order to receive training on the roles, responsibilities, liabilities and expectations of City Council.
