Statement from Mayor Matthews regarding Municipal Affairs' petition review

Today we received a letter regarding the review conducted by Municipal Affairs this past summer. You can read the letter here.

Council respects the process that Municipal Affairs undertook to look into resident concerns and together with Administration, we participated fully in their review process.

We welcome the recommendation from Municipal Affairs to continue with the third party review of Chestermere Utilities Incorporated (CUI) by Stack’d Consulting.

Earlier this year in response to resident concerns, we initiated a robust review of the rate-setting process and CUI’s mandate, and we appreciate the Ministry’s support of this effort.

As requested, we will be pleased to provide the Minister with a copy of the report and the actions we plan to take once the report has been completed and reviewed. Regular updates will also be provided to our residents.

As members of Council and as residents of this community, we care deeply about Chestermere’s future and resident concerns. We constantly look for ways we can improve. We look forward to the completion of the report and sharing the continual improvement of our utility oversight processes in the coming months.

Mayor Patricia Matthews
