Chamber of Commerce to organize 2017 Lemonade Day

The City of Chestermere is pleased to announce that the Chestermere Chamber of Commerce has agreed to take the lead in organizing the 2017 Chestermere Lemonade Day.

“We are very proud to hand Lemonade Day over to the Chamber of Commerce,” said David Petrovich, Economic Development Officer for the City of Chestermere. “The Chamber was an advocate for this initiative last year and we know that this event will be in excellent hands for years to come.”

Chestermere’s first Lemonade Day this past spring was an outstanding success with over 100 kids ages 6-17 selling lemonade around the community. As the new organizers, the Chamber looks forward to building on last year’s success to expand the 2017 event.

“Supporting our local entrepreneurs is a key focus for the Chamber and we are very excited to reach out to our youngest entrepreneurs through this event,” said Darlene Tuck, Executive Assistant for the Chamber of Commerce.

As a strategic business mentorship program, Lemonade Day teaches young people the core components of running a business. Participants are expected to find sources for a small startup loan, negotiate rent for their space, brainstorm ideas for making their lemonade stand unique, think about ways to market their business, obtain a business license, and consider how they can give back to the community.

Community volunteers have a big role in this event by providing business guidance and mentorship to help the kids move their vision into reality.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers,” said Tuck. “Having a coach answer the kids’ questions not only helps them with their lemonade stand but also gives them a glimpse into the real business world. That is inspiring for the kids.”

The 2017 Lemonade Day will take place in June and applications will open in the spring. In preparation for the event, the Chamber is seeking business owners and parents to serve as volunteers. If anyone is interested in joining the organizing committee or serving as a youth mentor, please contact the Chamber at
