Free family event to help prepare you for an emergency

Emergency Preparedness Open House

If Chestermere faced an emergency, would you be prepared?

The City of Chestermere’s Emergency Management Agency (CHEMA) is offering a free event about the importance of being prepared for an emergency. Kids, families, young adults and seniors can enjoy an afternoon of fun filled activities while learning what they need to do to be safe at home or in an evacuation.

Emergency Preparedness Week is a Canada wide initiative coordinated by Public Safety Canada. This year, the theme is Plan, Prepare, Be Aware. It is meant to help Canadians take action to protect themselves and their families during emergencies. In celebration of this national week, CHEMA is hosting a second annual Emergency Preparedness Open House at the Fire Hall on May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The afternoon will include:

  • Kids firefighter competition
  • Fire Hall and Emergency Operations Centre tours
  • Firefit demo
  • 72 hour kit assembly activity
  • Appearance by Sparky the Dog
  • Resource and information tables

“We’re excited to be hosting this event again to bring awareness about what you can do to be prepared,” said Donelda Laing, the City’s Acting Director of Emergency Management. “We are looking forward to sharing what we are doing as a City and providing resources to help all families prepare.”
