Statement from Chestermere Fire Chief regarding illegal opening of fire hydrants

Chestermere Fire Crest - single crest [Converted]

"Starting September 26 and throughout the last few days, numerous fire hydrants in our community have been opened by an unauthorized person or persons.

This illegal activity poses a danger to the water pressure levels of the City of Chestermere. Having multiple hydrants open may compromise our ability to use the hydrants effectively when required for firefighting.

This activity creates a high risk for our community and the matter is currently under investigation by Chestermere RCMP.

We ask Chestermere residents to be vigilant and notify the RCMP if you see any suspicious activity around the fire hydrants. They should only be accessed by the Fire Department, City employees or utility companies.

If you witness or have witnessed any unauthorized persons accessing any fire hydrant, or if you see a flowing hydrant, please contact 9-1-1 immediately.”
