Looking for a way to volunteer in Chestermere?

The Town of Chestermere is looking for residents to be part of our boards and committees!

The following committees are looking for new members:

  • Audit Committee: This committee makes recommendations to Council on the selection of the town’s auditor, provides oversight of the financial reporting process, and reviews the auditors’ statements. Meets several times per year as necessary.
  • Assessment Review Board (ARB): This board reviews appeals of property value assessments and makes decisions about the appeals. Meets when required. Please note: additional training is required to be a member of this board.
  • Chestermere Planning Commission (CPC): The CPC considers and decides on development applications (i.e. for new buildings, subdivisions, etc) that come from the Development Officer. Meets approximately once a month.
  • Community Services Board: This Board advises the Director of FCSS (Family and Community Support Services) on Chestermere’s social infrastructure and reviews the FCSS program. Meets approximately once a month.
  • Policing committee: The Policing committee oversees the agreement between Chestermere and the RCMP, assists in developing plans and priorities for policing, and submits budgets and annual reports on the status of policing to Council. Meets approximately once a month.
  • Subdivision Development Appeal Board (SDAB): This Board hears and decides items denied by the Chestermere Planning Commission that have been appealed by the applicant. Meets when required.
  • Urban Beautification Committee (UBC): This committee explores ideas and costs for ways to make Chestermere more beautiful (i.e. banners, lights, flowers, etc) and pursues projects that Council approves.

Assessment Review Board
  • This Board is made up of residents and council members and is established to hear appeals on assessments. The Board generally meets once per year to hear any appeals that come forward.
Audit Committee
  • This committee reviews the Town’s audit with it’s selected Auditors.
Cenotaph Structure Advisory Committee
  • This committee is developing a plan for the addition of a Cenotaph in the town.
Chestermere-Conrich Regional Recreation Board
  • The purpose of this board is to foster, create, develop, maintain and operate parks, recreation program facilities and services and other recreational facilities in the cooperating town and regional area under their joint control and management.
Chestermere Historical Society Advisory Group
  • This group’s goal is to preserve the history and historical items in Chestermere.
Chestermere Planning Commission
  • The Municipal Government Act, 2000, Chapter M-26, as amended, provides that a municipal council may establish a Municipal Planning Commission and may delegate to it the power to make decisions with respect to applications for development permits.
Community Health Services Advisory Committee
  • This committee is to focus on a goal of clearly defining what health services are required in the short, medium and long term future of the town.
Community Services Advisory Board
  • This service provides human and social service information, a resource library, programs for all ages as well as links and referrals to other service providers. Sub-Committee: Bus, Public Transport
Environmental Initiatives Committee

COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

  • The Environmental Initiatives Committee is accepting volunteer applications. This committee’s mandate is to provide up to date communications regarding recycling and composting offerings to the residents of Chestermere through the media, personal interaction and events. The committee will work in conjunction with the schools and groups such as Beavers, Guides, Cadets etc., to promote recycling and composting initiatives in our town.
Library Board
  • Chestermere Public Library services to the Town of Chestermere and surrounding areas.
  • The Board meets on the 1st Thursday of every month. New members or visitors are always welcome.

Parks/Anniversary Park Advisory Committee
  • This committee is appointed by council to review and develop a program for upgrading town parks.
Policing Advisory Committee
  • This committee acts as a liaison between Council and the RCMP. If you have a question, suggestion or a comment related to policing or photo enforcement issues, please contact the Policing Committee via email or call 403-207-7095.
Subdivision & Development Appeal Board
  • This board hears appeals with respect to decisions of the town’s Development Officer/Subdivision Approving Authority and renders a final decision based on appealed planning matters.
Urban Beautification Advisory Committee
  • This committee is appointed by council to develop a program for beautification of streets in the community.

We urge you as a resident of the Town of Chestermere to take an active role in assisting in the continued development of your community. Please take the time to submit your letter of interest to serve a term on one or more of the above-mentioned Committees/Boards. All current Committee/Board members are asked to resubmit a letter of interest.

Selecting our Town Committee members requires everyone who is applying for a vacancy to provide the Town with a short letter of interest form listing contact information and any relevant experience to that Committee (please feel free to list past or current experience with other Town Committees or Boards). We ask that all those interested submit this form whether you are a current, new or applying member.
