WHAT’S NEW AROUND TOWN
Supplementary Assessment and Tax Notices - DUE JANUARY 10, 2012
Property improvements, including homes and commercial buildings which have been completed during the period between January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011, are subject to a supplementary property tax. The taxation period is categorized in months from the time the water meter was installed to the remainder of the year. (The installation of the water meter is when the building is considered to be complete).
New homeowners are requested to review the billing period as a portion of the billing may be the developers/builders responsibility.
However, you are responsible for the full payment due to the Town of Chestermere.
Payment by Interac, Cash or Cheque can be made in our Town Office during regular business hours. Payment by telebanking and online banking will also be accepted. Please allow 3 to 4 days for processing time. The Town Office will be closed from December 25 to January 1, 2012.
2011 Supplementary Assessment and Taxation Notices are due by January 10, 2012.
For further information contact our taxation department at 403-207-7057.
Sidewalk Snow Removal
With the snow season coming upon us we just wanted to send the reminder of the provisions of the Town of Chestermere Snow Removal Bylaw #018-11 (Download).
- Section 4 of this bylaw indicates that a property owner must remove snow/slush/ice from their sidewalks within 48 hours. If the snow/slush/ice is not removed from the sidewalks then Town work forces can remove it and charge the costs back to the property owner.
- The provisions of the bylaw do not require that a notice be issued to the property owner. Several municipalities including Cochrane, Strathmore and Airdrie follow a similar protocol as it allows for faster and more efficient removal of snow/slush/ice from the sidewalks when the homeowners do not take care of it. Some municipalities do issue a notice to remove the snow/slush/ice and by doing so the sidewalks may pose a risk to individuals for a longer period of time then necessary.
The Town will also advertise the provisions of the Snow Removal bylaw in the Anchor so that property owners are educated in regards to their snow removal obligations.
