On April 29, 2022, a Chestermere Peace Officer was monitoring traffic in the 23500Blk of Range Road 284, which is located on the western edge of the City.
At approximately 1810hrs, the officer observed a small white vehicle travelling northbound at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle was recklessly passing other northbound vehicles, with complete disregard for the safety of other road users.
The posted speed limit of Range Road 284 is 80kmph, however as the vehicle continued to pass other vehicles, the Peace Officer whose vehicle was equipped with RADAR, was able to obtain a top speed of 205kmph, and eventually locked in the vehicles speed at 199kmph.

Fortunately, the driver chose to stop without incident, and was subsequently arrested, claiming “he was just testing out his new exhaust system” when this incident occurred.
“Travelling at these speeds is outrageous, it not only shows the wanton disregard for their own safety, but other members of the public. This could have ended so tragically in a split second for someone who was just heading home on a Friday afternoon” says Peace Officer Sgt. Trever BOWMAN.
A male from Calgary, now faces several charges under the Traffic Safety Act, and is scheduled to appear in Strathmore Provincial Court in July.
This incident highlights Chestermere’s Peace Officers commitment to traffic safety, and their continued efforts to reduce traffic related injuries and deaths in Chestermere.
