Rock the block this summer

block party 1

During the winter months, it’s easy to come home, bundled against the cold, and head straight inside without so much as a glance to your snow-covered neighbourhood. Now that spring is here, it’s time to get out and get to know your community.

The City provides everything you need to host a block party at no cost, so kick start your summer by attending or hosting a neighbourhood celebration!

Want to know how much fun it can be? Last year, over 3,000 residents partied in their neighbourhood.

This is what attendees had to say about their experience:

“Your program makes it easier to get the neighbours together!”

Booking and planning a block party is easy! The City will provide you with a ‘How-To’ Guide, invitation templates, kids’ games, disposable dishes and other materials. BBQs are available upon request, as well as gift certificates for food from generous community sponsors.

“Always fun to catch up with neighbours you know and a great way to meet new ones.”

Whether you’re new to the neighbourhood or a long-time citizen, block parties can help to re-establish old neighbourhood relationships or build new ones.

Neighbours who know each other care for one another, their properties and can resolve neighbourhood issues together.

“I have met other families in our neighbourhood I can ask for help and support.”

Getting to know your neighbours builds community spirit and safer streets. Strong community ties can do a great deal to reduce isolation, reliance on social services, and even crime. By exchanging contact information and getting to know your neighbours’ schedules, you can increase security on your street.

“We’ve all pulled together to make this a wonderful first-time event for our block! We’ve already decided to make this an annual event.”

You won’t find a great event any closer to home! Block parties are a hassle-free way to have some fun with the whole family. The City can provide barricades for your street to ensure kids can play outdoor games safely.

Get ready to soak in the nice weather, eat delicious food made by your neighbours and enjoy great conversations. Call today to start planning a party that will rock your block!
