2018 tax notices have been issued and many residents may be wondering how to sign up for monthly payments instead of paying one lump sum.
“The Tax Installment Payment Program (TIPP) is a good option for many residents as it spreads out the amount over the year and erases any fears about late fees,” says Brenda Hewko, the City’s Controller.
Signing up is as easy as:
- Go to www.chestermere.ca/tipp
- Click on the ‘TIPP Application Form’
- Return your completed form to City Hall along with a void cheque
To improve this program for 2018, we’ve removed the ‘Catch Up’ Requirement. If you join TIPP in a month other than January, you can put down whatever amount you'd like (including $0) and the remainder will be split over the remaining months of the year (rather than paying a lump sum to catch up to the current month). The following January, you will have your payments split over the usual 12 months.
Example:
If your total tax bill is $3000, and you pay $1000 in June, the remaining $2000 will be divided by 6 and you will pay $333.33 each month through December.
In January, your $3000 will be divided over 12 months and you will pay $250 per month. If the tax rate or your assessment changes in June, your amount will be adjusted again to reflect those changes.
If you are already on TIPP and need to make any changes, call our office at 403-207-7057.
