City Council holds second Dirt to Door Breakfast

Dirt to Door 2019

Last Thursday, City Council hosted the second annual Dirt to Door Development Industry Breakfast. During that breakfast, Mayor Marshall Chalmers addressed the group with updates on how the City has been working to improve the development process in Chestermere.

“We heard that you wanted to have less red tape, that you wanted us to be more efficient and that you want stability and reliability,” says Chalmers. “Well, we took all that feedback and got to work.”

In his presentation, Chalmers covered four main pillars City Council has been pursuing to help move the City towards sustainability. These include taking control of the Chestermere Utilities Inc. situation, doing a better job of managing finances (which includes a 2% tax decrease), finding new ways to help enable development (including new incentives) and planning for the future.

“The next step is now to navigate new waters, make new discoveries, welcome new opportunities and become all we can be,” says Chalmers. “We still have some work to do to get our ship moving at full speed, but I am confident that we are well on our way to success.

Following his update, BILD Calgary CEO Brian Hahn said “Our industry has a great counterpart with Chestermere City Council. They are exemplifying courage and humility and we are proud to work with them.”

The morning event concluded with a discussion around what is working well and what could use improvement when investing or building in the City of Chestermere.
