Paving of Township Road 240, Range Road 282 and the new Kinniburgh Bridge is now complete and the area will officially reopen to the public on Thursday, November 7 at noon.
Mayor Marshall Chalmers attended a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony this week to symbolically celebrate the reopening.
“We are excited to be able to reopen this important connector and provide additional value to our residents during their daily commute,” says Chestermere Mayor Marshall Chalmers. “This multi-year construction project was designed to support the future growth and development of Chestermere and ease traffic congestion on other major transportation routes.”
Initial construction began in 2017 and the scope of the project included:
• Upgrading the existing gravel road along Township Road 240 and Range Road 282 to a new paved road
• Construction of two new bridges over the Western Irrigation District canal including a new bridge south of Kinniburgh Boulevard to connect it to Range Road 282
• Deep utility installation of water, sanitary and storm lines.
“We recognize that the long-term road construction has been challenging for residents who live in these areas and we appreciate the community’s patience,” adds Mayor Chalmers. “We look forward to continuing with Council’s commitment to provide even more amazing opportunities to connect our residents to their community.”
A caution to commuters, construction personnel will still be in the area for a few more days continuing work such as line painting, sign and fencing installation, ditch grading and some general clean-up. Some delays can be expected with flaggers controlling access and ensuring a safe work environment in the last days of the project.
The posted speed limit will be 60 km/h, drivers are asked to watch for work crews and respect any interim traffic accommodations while the final touches are completed.
The project was funded in part by the Small Communities Fund Grant, the Kinniburgh developers and off-site levies.
